Pat′s Projects
Princeton Autism Technology has identified some important initial project areas to pursue:
Treating patients in their home or school while informed doctors stay in their offices is possible using technology! Not only can families save time, money and stress, doctors will be getting better information to diagnose and treat their patients.
Autism′s gifted teachers and therapists cannot be everywhere, and autistic students are motivated by multimedia. Augmenting current education with programs over video-conferencing saves teachers valuable time, and can provide a unique approach to motivate the student. Video examples link (above) shows 1) therapist guiding mother remotely, and behavior consultant guiding group home paraprofessional remotely.
An estimated 80% of the autism community cannot access the latest findings on research and education due to finances, time or unique family restraints. A dedicated online learning platform can make more information available through existing websites or deliverable CD Rom′s. PAT funds related presentations thru such a platform so that thousands can learn from their homes or offices.
Computer Learning to follow....
Parents and teachers will tell you that people with autism tend to be gifted on computers, but resources to best nurture this gift is extremely limited.
And More...
- Where Autistic children run away with no sense of danger - there is "child tracking" technology.
- Where stressed parents want to see their kids in the classroom, and overworked teachers need to be in the students′ home - there is video monitoring technology.
- Where some nonverbal autistic people communicate using special "speaking" computers – there are breakthroughs in assistive technology
